The world of Star Wars is an exciting but dangerous place! While fans enjoy watching the movies and spin-off shows, living in the Star Wars universe means you have to deal with planetary and interplanetary threats more often than usual. Yet, the things that make the Star Wars universe dangerous to live in are also what make its story thrilling and interesting. For many decades, Star Wars has entertained millions of people and has created its own community of followers and toy collectors that span across generations.
If by chance you happen to wake up as an inhabitant of Tatooine or a citizen of Coruscant, it would be helpful to know how to wield a weapon so you can defend yourself from any threat. Of course, it would be great to have Force powers or to be vested with Mandalorian armour, but even then, Force wielders (such as the Jedi and Sith) still need to arm themselves with handy weapons – and for Mandalorians, it’s an arsenal of weapons!
Here’s a list of some hand weapons you can choose from in case you do wake up inside the Star Wars universe. Let's have a look!
Lightsaber
- The most famous object in the Star Wars franchise, the lightsaber is the Jedi’s favourite weapon of choice.
- It can cut through blast doors, disable enemies at close distance, or kill them at once if the wielder chooses to.
- Combined with the Force, a Jedi can anticipate and deflect incoming blaster bolts using his lightsaber.
- The intended purpose of the lightsaber is to bring an end to conflicts; it is designed to injure the enemy no more than the wielder’s objective.
- Because of their dark disposition, the Sith can use the lightsaber to bring more suffering to their victims.

Blaster
- Firepower is the most basic thing you need when engaging in war, and in the Star Wars mythos, the blaster is a must-have weapon if you want firepower.
- The blaster is basically a gun, but instead of lead bullets, it fires bursts of beam energy called blaster bolts.
- Depending on the blaster’s settings, the blaster can either kill, wound, or paralyse its target.
- Blasters appear in a variety of shapes and sizes, and can have additional functions such as firing grappling hooks.
Bowcaster
- The bowcaster is a traditional weapon for Wookiees, but other intelligent species can wield it as well.
- Bowcasters are hand-crafted on the planet Kashyyyk using ancient methods.
- They may look like simple crossbows, but bowcasters are more powerful and accurate than blasters; they can shoot metal quarrels sheathed in plasma energy.
- This weapon is a combination of ancient craftsmanship and modern galactic technology.
Lightsaber Pike
- Also known as lightsaber lance, the lightsaber pike is a staff weapon that resembles a halberd or a spear.
- But unlike the spear, it has 2 plasma blades – one on each end of the staff.
- Lightsaber pikes are the standard weapons for Jedi Temple Guards.
Ion Blasters
- Ion blasters are handheld guns that fire massive particles of ionised energy, instead of blaster bolts.
- These weapons are used to disable electrical systems like droids and electronic weaponry used by Mandalorians, making them powerless.
- When used against living creatures, the ion blaster can only stun them, rendering them unconscious.
- In some cases, when a cannon is utilised instead of a blaster, the mere impact of the ion blast may kill a living creature or completely destroy machines.
- The Jawas of Tatooine are the known inventors of the ion blaster.
Electrostaff
- The electrostaff is a mechanically complicated weapon armed with electomagnetic pulse tips on both ends.
- This weapon is designed to block lightsaber attacks, making it hard for a Jedi to repel the counter-attack.
- The electricity on the electrostaff can electrocute or incapacitate an organic being, depending on his or her physical strength.
- It is the primary weapon of the Managuards who served as security for Count Dooko and General Grievous during the Clone Wars.
Quarterstaff
- Prior to becoming a Jedi, the quarterstaff is the trademark weapon of Rey which she salvaged from the litters of Jakku.
- The quarterstaff is both a great tool for scavenging and a weapon of defence against in-person attackers.
- Rey was able to disassemble her quarterstaff and used various parts from it to create her own lightsaber.

Vibro Axe
- The vibro axe is a standard axe that uses a power cell to create vibrations on the axe’s head, making it more lethal to its victims.
- Vibro axes are the favourite weapons among thugs and of the pig-looking creatures on Planet Gamorr.
- Although the vibro axe is the weapon of choice for Gamorreans, Force wielders can also utilise it in the absence of a lightsaber and enhance its capabilities with the use of the Force.
Vambraces
- Vambraces are weapons of the Mandalorians (who are known to be the rivals of the Jedi); they were designed to combat the fighting abilities of the Jedi.
- These bracelet-like armour are worn in pairs, one for each forearm; they are equipped with a variety of sub-weapons such as grappling lines, paralysing darts, and repulsor rays.
- Although very useful in battle, vambraces cannot deflect the strikes from a lightsaber.

Darksaber
- The Darksaber is the only one of its kind; it’s an ancient sword-like weapon similar to the lightsaber.
- Unlike the lightsaber, however, the Darksaber has a black coloured energy blade, a bit shorter, and has a higher pitch sound when it reacts with the atmosphere.
- It was created by the first Mandalorian to be inducted into the Jedi Order, Tarre Vizsla.
