Playing and collecting trading cards is a fun hobby that kids and many grownups are going crazy about. For those who are into this kind of pastime, it’s a well-known fact that some accessories and add-ons are needed to allow for a smooth and seamless gameplay and trading of cards. These add-ons and accessories also serve as upgrades to their current card collection, and may even give them an edge during actual games and tournaments.
This applies true for players and collectors of the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG)! Whether you’ve been playing and trading Pokémon cards for a long while or you’re just starting to live out the game, there are a few must-haves you need to take note of. And because we’re Mr Toys, it gives us great delight to list down what you need to complete your Pokémon TCG armament and prepare for your long awaited tournament.
Pokémon TCG Booster Packs
Booster packs are sets of cards that form the expansion for your Pokémon cards. Each booster pack contains 10 cards – a combination of 6 common cards, 3 uncommon cards, and 1 rare card – sometimes, there’s an additional “energy card.” Booster cards allow you to reinforce your current deck of cards, which are especially helpful during a game.

Pokémon TCG Theme Decks
While you can strengthen your Pokémon cards with booster packs and energy cards, you can add more exciting sets by getting theme decks. The Pokémon theme deck is a “pre-constructed” deck of cards, usually comprising 60 cards, that form a particular theme. Each theme deck is designed to execute a specific strategy during a game. If you’re just starting with Pokémon TCG, you may want to grab a theme deck or two.

Pokémon TCG Deck Boxes and Box Sets
Deck boxes are great containers to keep your Pokémon trading cards in good condition and are especially handy when traveling for a tournament. Pokémon TCG box sets, on the other hand, are box packages that contain a complete set of Pokémon cards which include theme cards, booster cards, and other expansion cards. The box can be re-used as a deck box for your cards as well.

Pokémon TCG Pin Sets
The great thing when you buy a Pokémon TCG pin set is that you also get Pokémon cards and other add-ons, which may include booster packs and a code card so you can play the online version of Pokémon TCG. Of course, you get to have a Pokémon pin for your jacket, bag, or lanyard.

Pokémon Portfolios or TCG Albums
Aside from deck boxes, Pokémon portfolios or TCG albums (binders to some collectors) are another great way to store your Pokémon trading cards. The advantage of these portfolios or albums is that you can flip the pages and show-off your trading cards to your friends easily.

Pokémon Trainer Cards
Just like booster packs, trainer cards are special expansions to your existing set of cards. But unlike booster cards that provide more power to your deck, Pokémon trainer cards mainly serve as support during actual play. To make it simple, Pokémon cards do the attack, booster cards power their attack, and trainer cards provide special effects. There is a special rule at the bottom of each trainer card that specifies the purpose of the card.
