Tonka is an American toy truck manufacturer and one of the most popular and longest standing toy vehicle producer in the world next to the UK based Dinky Toys. Children and adults have been buying, playing, and collecting Tonka toy trucks ever since the 1960’s.
For those who are into collecting Tonka toys, we took the pleasure of collating a few but important facts every Tonka toy enthusiast should know.
- Many websites about toys have listed Tonka toy trucks as being die cast. The thing is, this is incorrect – Tonka vehicles were never die cast! They were (and are still) made from sheet metal.
- The rarest Tonka toy is the “Minnesota Zoo Van,” which is released in very limited numbers. It is so unique that almost all toy truck collectors are after it.
- For toy collectors, recognising the replica from the original is very important. Some toy factories in Eastern European countries like Bulgaria, the former Yugoslavia, and Russia are said to have manufactured “Tiny Tonkas,” but these toys have been found to be fake since they were made from cheap grade metal. Also, the Tonka company never gave those factories the license to manufacture and sell Tonka toys. The real Tiny Tonkas are produced in New Zealand, Canada, and the US.
- Some people may confuse the Mini Tonka from the Tiny Tonka. They are actually not the same and are 2 separate genre of toys made by Tonka.
Tonka trucks and vehicles are easy to find in most toy shops, but Mr Toys provides a huge selection of Tonka toys any collector will definitely delight on.
